What To Do If Your Dining Room Has Carpet

What To Do If Your Dining Room Has Carpet

I'm just brainstorming here in case we get the house rental that has carpet in the dining room-whoever thought of that idea seriously must not have thought it through!

It seriously makes me consider just tearing out that small bit of carpet and putting down wood instead!

My toddler has no concept of no-no when we warn her about throwing her fork, milk (in a bottle but it can still splash out), food, etc from her high chair. It is seriously annoying. There is NO way that carpet under her high chair will look good at all-not to mention how sticky and disgusting it will be!

And to be honest, the 6, 10, and 36 year old can be quite messy too. Tuna sandwich filling has been found on the floor in the dining area currently in our home and can you just imagine that getting squished into the carpet?! I am not willing to scrub the carpet daily. I can sweep (wood/tile) but I'm not going to get a rag and clean the carpet daily!

What are some solutions to this problem? There's those hard plastic covering for office chairs to roll on-but ick, plastic. Plus I would need to figure out how to spread them out for full coverage to span the whole space probably of the room so chairs can easily slide back and forth.

I don't think putting a flimsy plastic sheet down is realistic because-is it vinyl? That's not happening? Or it's so cheap it will tear easily if the kids scoot back. And I find it super wasteful to be using that much plastic daily.

My hubby says in New York people will redo parts of their rentals to however they like. They're just renting the space. (To some degree). He said that in me questioning what if we just tore out the carpet there.

Though that's an expensive project for someone else's home. :( but seriously might make living there easier instead of me hating the carpet in the dining area every.single.day.

There's not a lot of rentals here that are priced well and actually nice inside. So not considering this rental is not an option. It's the best thing we have seen yet that we can actually afford!
